Humans in Design: Humans in the Design of Yellow... →
humansindesign: A little while back, I blogged my observations on the effectiveness of a yellow “do not cross” line at Helsinki Airport. The line worked for awhile: Until it didn’t: I compared this to previous broken windows studies which we’ve reported - In short, in small social situations a…

SharePoint 2010 full breadcrumbs →
I’ve figured out how to implement breadcrumbs which look like SharePoint (MOSS/WSS) 2007, while also retaining the new breadcrumb features (e.g. view selector) for SharePoint 2010. The code for putting this in your master-pages is hosted here.

Kindle Essentials
Bought a Kindle. Got apps for the Kindle. These are the apps I think you need to know about if you have an eReader of any kind (including Kindle, iPad, nook, etc). Everything listed is 100% cross-platform - Win/Lin/Mac - yourdevice@free.kindle.com - You should set up your Amazon account so that you can email stuff to your Kindle for free. Tip: Add ‘convert’ to the subject line when...

Windows 7 - Tweak Integrated Graphics Performance
If you’re suffering from poor performance on a Windows 7 laptop, a likely culprit is the extra visual effects. These visual effects were designed to be used on computers with dedicated 3D graphics cards, but some old corporate workstation laptops have Quattro 2D cards, and many modern laptops use poor quality integrated graphics. Microsoft forgot to implement the feature that turns the fancy...

Enabling non-localhost access to WebMatrix
If you’ve got some advanced testing to be doing, here are the steps for enabling WebMatrix to serve on something other than localhost. By default, WebMatrix binds to localhost, so if you try to use your machine name (i.e. allow other machines on the LAN) to view your site, it won’t work. The reason for this is that IIS Express (the WebMatrix web server) is designed to be run without...

Application List
Origianlly Posted by Ali Robertson on 15 February 2009 2011 Update: This was written in 2009. I now have new apps, but I basically just use http://ninite.com for everything. :) This list excludes the ‘obvious’ ones like Office/Photoshop/Visual Studio/etc… Ninite: Some of my less common apps from my ninite package are: VLC - This is a media player that plays any format, also...
